Today was Easter Sunday and Rick and I were very fortunate to see Florence’s Easter Celebration. Every year, a cart is decorated and contains many fireworks. The fireworks are set off in a neat display. Rick and I went to see that this morning. There were a lot of people! It was hard to see everything from where we were standing but it was still neat to see.

After the fireworks display, Rick and I walked around the city for awhile. We went to a leather market. As we moved on, there were a few artists drawing with chalk on the cement. They were very good at their work. We continued to walk to an area with a lot of statues. This area was the original location of Michelangelo’s David. While the real statue is now in a museum, a copy stands in the original location.

We crossed the river by walking on the Ponte Vecchio which is a bridge with many jewelry shops. We then climbed to Michelangelo’s Plaza. This area was a lookout point over the city of Florence. It was an amazing view. There was also another copy of David.

Rick and I went back to the hostel to rest for awhile. Then we went to the Accademia where the original David statue is now located. There were a few other statues and artworks in the museum. The only real points of interest to me was the original David and other unfinished works by Michelangelo.

After this, we walked around the outdoor markets for awhile. Then we went to dinner. One restaurant offered a special to the people staying at the hostel we were at. For 12 Euros each, we had a glass of wine, a plate of pasta, prime rib, and dessert. It was very good.
