Emily and I were pretty tired so we decided to sleep in for a little bit this morning.  I wasn’t moving too fast and felt bad.  We had decided to go to the Keukenhof which translates to kitchen garden.  This garden is known around the world.  The garden covers thirty-two hectares and has fifteen kilometers of walking paths.  Each year 7 million flower bulbs are planted by hand.  There are tulips, hyacinths, daffodils, and other flowers.  There are also over 2,500 trees in 87 varieties.  The Keukenhof is one of the most visited attractions in the Netherlands.

Emily and I bought bus and entrance combination tickets.  We got on the bus by the Leiden train station.  The ride was about a half hour to get to the town of Lisse where the garden is located.  It was a crowded bus and we had to stand the entire time.  When we got to the Keukenhof, the line for tickets was huge.  We were really glad we already had our entrance ticket.

We walked around the gardens for a few hours.  We went at a good time because the majority of the flowers were blooming.  It was beautiful.  There were flowers everywhere.  It was interesting seeing all the different varieties and colors.  The air also smelled really good.  Since there were so many trees, there were always places of shade but there were areas where we walked in the sun as well.  There were many water features including a large pond.  There were swans and ducks in the water.

After we had seen the majority of the garden, we decided that we had enough flowers.  We took the bus back to Leiden and returned to my residence.  That evening, Emily went to the grocery store and took a few walks to explore the city.  I, unfortunately, had to work on homework.  But I think she enjoyed taking pictures of Leiden.
