This morning, the three of us had Netherlands and European Context. Today we talked about the European Union (EU). In many ways, Europe is trying to unify itself. Europe has many differences but shares a common history and religion. There are 49 countries in Europe and 27 of them belong to the EU. All European countries are allowed to apply to be a member of the EU. Even if a country applies, it may not be allowed to join. Turkey has been trying to become a member for twenty years. However, there are many fears of them joining. People are afraid that the people will leave Turkey and work for low wages causing current EU members to lose their jobs. I have noticed that the immigration issue with the United States and Mexico is very similar to the issue in The Netherlands. It is a topic that is in the news on a regular basis. Since the country is very small, people are worried about too many foreigners coming here to live.
We did not have photography class this afternoon. Originally, we were supposed to have an excursion to Den Haag. However, this was not going to be able to work. Since my photography professor thought we were not going to have class, she made other arrangements. When she found out that we were having regular classes today, it was too late for her to change her plans. I used my free afternoon to work on travel plans and other things that needed to be done.
