Carts used to pass through this archway very regularly. As you can see, the weels from the wagons hit the wall and caused it to erode away. So the city decided to place a cannon in the ground so instead of ruining the wall, the carts would be damaged.
This is one of the churches in Haarlem. It is technically unfinished. It is hard to explain without pointing it out, so ask me when I get home. The tall tower used to be made from stone. However, the church showed signs that it would collapse so the tower was replace by a wooden one.
