Sara had classes this morning so I worked on some homework. Unfortunately, I have a four page paper and a short presentation on Monday. I also have a Dutch 2 quiz on Tuesday. It puts a slight damper on Spring Break but oh well. Sara gave me directions to a park in Granada that many people run and walk in. It was beautiful. It was another sunny day and the park had many trees and flowers. After Sara’s class we met and walked around for awhile. We saw the cathedral which is the only one to have a statue of Lucifer, the fallen angel, on the building. Around the cathedral there are a few venders selling spices. It smelled really good. We also walked around the Plaza Bib-Rambla. All the walking around made us very hungry so we stopped and ate our sandwiches Sara had made. We then went to the Alhambra. This amazing site is an old city or fort that was once inhabited by Muslim rulers. It was amazing. I took so many pictures of the gardens and the buildings. We probably spent three to four hours there.
Sara had an evening class so I used the school’s internet. After Sara’s class, we went to her house for supper. Students on Central’s Granada program live with host families. Sara’s family consists of a host mom and three host brothers. She also lives with another Central student. In Spain, it is very rare that guests come to someone’s home. Usually, they go out. So, I felt very privileged to be invited to dinner. The language barrier was a bit of a problem, but I got an idea about what was going on. The family has a large table in the living room. The brothers like to watch soccer and so they watch that usually every dinner. Sara’s host mom was a wonderful cook. She served us some type of chicken soup, pork, and Spanish tortilla. We had oranges for dessert. After dinner, Sara and I met some of her friends and went out for tapas.
